INTRODUCTION

I created the Kittenish Tank based on the Kittenish Shawlette as part of the Beatrix Box series by Little Skein. I gravitated to a story about a kitten called “The Story of Miss Moppet”. In the story, the kitten wraps a gingham dusting cloth over its head to try and trap a mouse. The pattern creates an almost gingham-like fabric look to mimic the cloth. This design with a fun way to combine color with slip stitch striping for a warm weather garment. “Kittenish” is an adjective for coyly playful, like or in the manner of a kitten. It is an ode to whimsy, silliness, and playfulness that we need in our lives to feel alive.

Thank you, Little Skein in the Big Wool, for collaborating with me on this design!

Finding the right ease for you, a guideline:

  1. Measure around your chest at the fullest/widest point.

  2. Grab one of your favorite fitting tops. Measure the top flat, at about 1"/ 2.5 cm below the armhole. Multiply by 2 to get the top’s circumference.

  3. (Top Circumference – Full Chest = Ease) If negative number, that’s negative ease. If it is a positive number, that’s positive ease.

Sample photographed is Size 4 worn with negative 2.5”/6 cm ease at chest.

Pattern has been test knitted. Examples of other knitters who have knit this pattern during test knit are in the Blog.
